The Red Rooster is a little diner on the High Street in Mineral Point.\u00a0 Whenever I walk past it at night, the way it is lit up reminds me\u00a0of my favorite painting, Nighthawks:<\/p>\n

As much as it reminds me of the Hopper painting though, the Red Rooster is much more of a morning place.\u00a0 When we go there at 10\u00a0o’clock on a\u00a0Saturday morning, they’ve already been open for 5 hours, serving coffee and hardy breakfast to farmers, milk truck drivers, and other early risers.\u00a0 We are practically their dinner crowd.<\/p>\n

I love an American breakfast.\u00a0\u00a0If all I did with my life was eat breakfast, I would be a happy man.\u00a0 Given that, you may not be surprised to hear I’m a traditionalist when it comes to breakfast.\u00a0 Eggs, bacon, toast, hashbrowns and coffee.\u00a0 Maybe pancakes instead of (or in addition to) the toast.\u00a0\u00a0Leslie is no more adventurous than me, almost always opting for corned beef hash and eggs.\u00a0 The\u00a0breakfast at the Rooster is good comfort food (they do a good lunch as well).\u00a0 It’s nothing out of the ordinary– just solid, traditional fare.<\/p>\n

Everytime we eat there we are treated well by the friendly staff, but I’m not sure if they’ve figured out that we live in town, I think they still think we are tourists…<\/p>\n

If you happen to find yourself in Mineral Point one morning, I can’t think of\u00a0a better way to start your day than by heading down to the Red Rooster.\u00a0 Who knows, if you stop by on a Saturday (not too early), there’s a decent chance you’ll run into us.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
