(I actually did eat some of that raw.)\u00a0 By the way, how great is Leslie&#8217;s new\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sigmaphoto.com\/shop\/50mm-f28-ex-dg-macro-sigma\">Sigma 50mm macro lens<\/a>?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/asparagus.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1514\" title=\"asparagus\" src=\"http:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/asparagus.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/asparagus.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/asparagus-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<!--more--><a href=\"http:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/porkbbqwithasparagus.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1515\" title=\"porkbbqwithasparagus\" src=\"http:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/porkbbqwithasparagus.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/porkbbqwithasparagus.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/porkbbqwithasparagus-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Barbequed pork shoulder is one of my favorite foods.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve really been trying to learn to make it properly (in a smoker, for hours and hours) myself.\u00a0 The best example of BBQ pork shoulder I&#8217;ve\u00a0ever had was at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.memphis-bbq.com\/\">Memphis BBQ<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/porkshoulder.jpg\"><\/a>\u00a0in Las Vegas (but started in Murphysboro, Illinois).\u00a0 It was a religious experience.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0But I&#8217;m lazy and my smoker is too cheap to use on cold days (hey, I only paid $16 for it).\u00a0 So (true BBQ afficionados might want to go <a href=\"http:\/\/disney.go.com\/index\">somewhere else<\/a> at this point)&#8230; I cooked it in the oven.\u00a0Okay, so I&#8217;m a cheater.\u00a0 Preparation\u00a0took awhile\u00a0but couldn&#8217;t be easier:<\/p>\n<p>Marinate the 3 lb pork shoulder roast for 6 hours in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 cup\u00a0white wine vinegar<\/li>\n<li>2 cups lemon\/lime soda<\/li>\n<li>1 tablespoon liquid smoke<\/li>\n<li>Salt, pepper &amp;\u00a0cayenne to taste<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Keep about half the marinade with the roast and cook it at 250 F for five hours, or until fork tender.\u00a0 Use a Dutch oven to keep in the moisture and\u00a0regulate the temperature.\u00a0 For texture reasons, I really prefer chopped pork over pulled pork, so I let the pork cool for ~20 mintues and then chop it up.<\/p>\n<p>We served it\u00a0with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bigbutzbbqsauce.net\/\">Big Butz cranberry sauce <\/a>and homemade pepper vinegar (jalapenos, thai peppers &amp; sport peppers in vinegar, good on anything except a peanut butter and jelly sandwich).\u00a0 We simply pan fried the asparagus in olive oil until browned on one side and\u00a0salted it with kosher salt.<\/p>\n<p>Apologies for the out of focus picture, by the way.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0By the time we noticed we didn&#8217;t get a good picture, we had already eaten everything.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi, remember me?\u00a0 \u00a0I used to have something to do with this blog too&#8230;
