<\/a>Earlier in the spring we had the opportunity to visit the Wiesbrook farm in Mineral Point.\u00a0 Clare Wiesbrook (pictured below with several of her happy and carefree goats) owns and runs Lacey’s Lathers<\/a>, a goat’s milk soap business.\u00a0 It is named after her very first goat Lacey who won Grand Champion Doe three times at the Iowa Country Fair.\u00a0 Clare started her business in the spring of 2000 at the age of eleven.\u00a0 What were you doing around that age?\u00a0 Me?\u00a0 I was\u00a0probably singing to MMM Bop <\/a>on the radio\u00a0or pining after Jonathan Taylor Thomas<\/a>.\u00a0 (Keith is too embarassed to publish the nerdy\u00a0activities he was up to.)<\/p>\n My favorite picture from the drizzly afternoon.\u00a0 I love how Cathy (Clare’s mother) is smiling at them.<\/em><\/p>\n Clare and I met at the Mineral Point Market <\/a>where I’ve bought some of her goats’ milk soaps and lotion bars.\u00a0 I love her products so much that I often give them away as gifts to family and friends.\u00a0 They are lightly scented, some with lavender, vanilla, strawberry, orange, or mint.\u00a0 She varies the scents with the seasons and unscented ones are\u00a0 also available.\u00a0 The soaps are gentle and creamy without leaving a slippery film unlike most commercial soaps.\u00a0 In the winter, I like to use the solid lotion bars because they are very rich and thick.\u00a0 My favorites last winter were the chocolate and nutmeg scented ones.<\/p>\n I was impressed how Clare knew all the names of her goats because after awhile they all\u00a0started looking the same to me.\u00a0 Right now she has about 30 does (\u266b Doe, a goat, a female goat \u266b) <\/em>and <\/em>plenty of young ones.\u00a0 Every spring each newborn gets a name and a picture to put into the goat family album.\u00a0 The babies were extremely cute and we got to pet several of them.\u00a0 Clare is very knowledgeable about these animals and she shares her passion and expertise\u00a0by being an active 4-H leader and mentor.<\/p>\n Below is Elvis, the llama.\u00a0 He was brought to the farm to watch the goats but look what has happened instead!<\/em><\/p>\n We had a wonderful afternoon at the farm.\u00a0 It was just beautiful and idyllic all around plus the Wiesbrooks are such a nice family.\u00a0 Clare mentioned that she might be opening the farm to the public in the near future.\u00a0 If you can’t wait, call ahead.\u00a0 I’m sure she would be more than happy to take you on a tour.\u00a0 Oh, and don’t forget to try some of the soaps!<\/p>\n Lacey’s Lathers Goat Milk Soap<\/strong><\/p>\n 775 Hwy.\u00a0 DDD Mineral Point, WI 53565<\/strong><\/p>\n (608) 987-2027<\/strong><\/p>\n![\"\"](\"http:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/laceyslathers1.jpg\" "\\"laceyslathers1\\"")
