We finally made it to Viroqua!\u00a0 Located\u00a0in the Kickapoo Valley<\/a>, Viroqua is a charming small town with great local food offerings.\u00a0 Our first stop on Main St. was the Golden Oven Bakery.\u00a0 We bought a piece of\u00a0chocolate butter cream cake roll and a sourdough loaf.\u00a0 The two ladies working there were very friendly and seemed to be in\u00a0a blissful state.\u00a0 I would be that happy too if I was surrounded by bakery smells all day and had easy access to that amazing chocolate roll.\u00a0 The cake was light and airy but not too fine.\u00a0 It had a slight crispness where it touched the cream which\u00a0had just\u00a0a kiss of sweetness.\u00a0 They also offered a lemon roll that day but I regretfully decided not to purchase one.\u00a0 We enjoyed some hot, buttery sourdough toast with our milky tea\u00a0the day after.<\/p>\n

After that I was drawn to a little shop\u00a0with a bright red door called Pomegranate<\/a>.\u00a0 I had a nice chat with\u00a0Angie, the owner and artist in residence.\u00a0 Abouth 90% of the items featured are handmade by her and are influenced by her Native American heritage.\u00a0 She also informed me that her daughter sells the best tamales (some wrapped in banana leaves and others in\u00a0corn husks)\u00a0at the Farmer’s Market <\/a>which we unfortunately missed.\u00a0 They were tearing down by the time we got there.\u00a0 We also scoped out the goods at the Public Market<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0appreciated the local selection at the Bramble Bookstore<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For lunch, we ate at the Driftless Cafe<\/a>.\u00a0 I ordered a burger made with locally grown and grass fed beef and Keith had a chicken curry with seasonal vegetables and rice.\u00a0 The burger was perfectly cooked with just a hint of pinkness.\u00a0 It was very juicy and flavorful.\u00a0 The curry was mild yet creamy and luscious.\u00a0 I even dipped my potato chips in the sauce.\u00a0 Exquisite.<\/p>\n

Sadly, we only had about a couple hours to spend in this lovely town.\u00a0 We will definitely be back especially for those tamales.\u00a0 Viroqua citizens, do you have any other suggestions for our return trip?<\/p>\n
