Meet Aaron Weaver and Krista Loomans.\u00a0 They are potters who will be participating in Mineral Point’s Second Annual Clay in May Pottery Tour<\/a>\u00a0this weekend.\u00a0\u00a0 We met this wonderful couple about three years ago at the Mineral Point Farmer’s Market<\/a>.\u00a0 The picture\u00a0below was taken last fall during the Fall Art Tour<\/a>.\u00a0 I was especially happy that day\u00a0because I finally found some locally made egg cups (held by Aaron).\u00a0 We have used them a lot\u00a0for\u00a0eating eggy soldiers<\/em>.\u00a0 They are strips of toasted bread dipped into a soft\u00a0boiled egg.<\/p>\n

Krista’s style is based on wood-firing, and is\u00a0influenced by her teacher\u00a0Kevin Crowe<\/a>\u00a0, who she apprenticed with for three years in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains\u00a0of Virginia\u00a0.\u00a0 Her work is high-fire stoneware and porcelain fired in a wood kiln for several days.\u00a0 During my last visit to her studio, a piece unlike any of her work that I had seen caught my eye.\u00a0 It was a sculpture of a woman on the ground, in tears.\u00a0 I found it quite profound because though the artist is showing\u00a0a vulnerable pose, she also\u00a0managed to evoke its\u00a0strength.\u00a0 The piece called “Grief” now sits near my favorites books in our living room.\u00a0 I think Krista should make more figurative sculptures.\u00a0 Don’t you agree?<\/p>\n

Aaron’s work is a little more whimsical.\u00a0 I especially love his dromedary candle\u00a0holder.\u00a0 His work is low-fired earthenware mostly fired in an electric kiln.\u00a0 Aaron has a degree in ceramics and has apprenticed with renowned potter Mark Hewitt<\/a>.\u00a0 Both Aaron and Krista will be showing their pieces at Green Lantern Studios, 261 High Street in Mineral Point this weekend.\u00a0 Saturday May 7th 10am-6pm and Sunday May 8th 10am-6pm.\u00a0 Go visit them as well as the other artists<\/a> who will be participating.<\/p>\n
