Keith and I have been enjoying\u00a0the season\u00a0by shopping at our local farmer’s market almost every \u00a0Saturday.\u00a0\u00a0Local food is incredibly abundant at this\u00a0time.\u00a0 There are\u00a0over thirty farmer’s markets in Southwest\u00a0Wisconsin alone, some of which are\u00a0listed here<\/a>.\u00a0 In addition are the\u00a0multiple\u00a0farm stands that you’ll find while driving along the country roads and sometimes in regular neighborhoods.\u00a0\u00a0My favorite find\u00a0last year\u00a0was a\u00a0cantaloupe and honeydew melon stand set up\u00a0at someone’s\u00a0driveway.\u00a0\u00a0The stands are usually unattended.\u00a0 All you have to do is pick\u00a0out what you like and leave the payment\u00a0in a box.<\/p>\n

Below is\u00a0a picture of yesterday’s amazing haul from our favorite farmer’s market<\/a>.\u00a0 We bought some farm fresh eggs from Gough’s Gorgeous Farm Goods<\/a>, 8 pints of raspberries from Bures<\/a>, meats (ribs, ground beef, and pork chops) from Marr’s Valley View Farms<\/a>, veggies (beets, carrots, and peach tomatoes) from Shooting Star Farm<\/a>, and some eggplant from the Buckhaus Farm.\u00a0 I froze most of the berries and made a couple of jars of raspberry jam.\u00a0 I will use the rest of the ingredients throughout the week and hopefully come up with something fantastic to enter in the Madison Area CSA Coalition Recipe Contest<\/a>.\u00a0 Winning entries will be\u00a0included in their “Farm-Fresh and Fast” cookbook project.\u00a0 Previous projects include 3 editions of the popular\u00a0“From Asparagus to Zucchini<\/a>” cookbook.<\/p>\n

The Madison Area CSA Coalition is seeking recipes designed by community members like you for their \u201cFarm-Fresh and Fast\u201d cookbook project. They are looking for original recipes that feature fresh, local produce and are ready to serve in under 60 minutes. (i.e., things that would be good for weeknight meals). If they select your submission(s) for publication, you\u2019ll see your name, and your culinary creation, in print!<\/p>\n
