I feel\u00a0a bit guilty posting this since we just had such a picture perfect winter’s day.\u00a0 I happily shoveled\u00a0some\u00a0snow while clumps of\u00a0fluffy snow showered me from high up the trees.\u00a0 Ollie dog and I went for a long ramble and took\u00a0a few pictures along the way.\u00a0 After that, I took a long bath and had a late breakfast of fried eggs with a giant cup of latte made with my favorite\u00a0Kickapoo Coffee <\/a>and Sassy Cow<\/a>\u00a0milk.\u00a0 Today, I’m not so keen on winter again so let’s get some virtual apricity from San Diego, a place where you can barely tell one day from the other.\u00a0 Always sunny with blue skies and\u00a0the temperature in the\u00a0mid 70’s\u00a0(at least during the week we spent there last August), it is a nice and relaxing place to be.\u00a0 My bags are packed, let’s go!<\/p>\n

Day 1:\u00a0 Wake up naturally and lazily\u00a0gaze out at Coronado Island and at the ships passing by while having a cup of coffee.\u00a0 After that maybe go down by the pool with the latest copies of Vogue<\/em> and Saveur<\/em>.\u00a0 Don’t forget your shades and sunscreen.\u00a0 Breakfast.\u00a0 Walk around Seaport Village<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0We might stop and\u00a0watch some guy\u00a0feeding his\u00a0colorful parrots, look at tacky seashell ornaments or miniature painted turtles,\u00a0and accidentally walk into a glow in the dark\u00a0t-shirt shop.\u00a0 Get out fast before a too tanned and too blonde alien\u00a0catches you.\u00a0 Thankfully, it’s lunchtime.\u00a0 There is good place (near the the statue of the iconic navy and nurse kissing) called The Fish Market<\/a>.\u00a0 Let’s order some\u00a0raw oysters and a huge clam bake platter and wash it down with\u00a0a glass of\u00a0crisp white wine.\u00a0 After lunch, head over to the park next to the USS Midway Museum where you might\u00a0be content to watch\u00a0a lot of cute sailors in uniform or go into the museum and learn a bit of history.\u00a0 Walk to the hotel and take a nap, maybe go out for a late dinner and a stroll, or just could just order in.\u00a0 Keith’s favorite thing to order from\u00a0room service is a turkey club and a glass of chocolate milk.\u00a0 The fries are mine.<\/p>\n

Day 2:\u00a0 Repeat the beginning of Day 1 until breakfast.\u00a0 Rent a car or if you have a super cool local like our Auntie Leona, have them take you out on a coastal drive.\u00a0 Stop by the cute towns along the way and shop a little.\u00a0\u00a0A must is a visit to the sea lion cove in La Jolla.\u00a0 They are such cute animals.\u00a0 Find a good Mexican restaurant for lunch (there are a lot of them).\u00a0 Make sure to head back to the city before sunset and head to Point Loma<\/a>.\u00a0 There is a\u00a0beautiful\u00a0historic lighthouse.\u00a0 Next to it is a garden teaming with artichoke plants.\u00a0 Oh yes, there is also a fantastic view of the city skyline.\u00a0 You might also spot some whales in the distance if you’re there at the right time of the year. For dinner, perhaps a meal at Royal India\u00a0<\/a>in the Gaslamp Quarter and take a much needed stroll around the neighborhood after.<\/p>\n

Day 3:\u00a0 Consider a workout at the gym instead of a lazy morning by the pool.\u00a0 A light breakfast then\u00a0maybe few hours walking around the zoo.\u00a0 Another seafood lunch.\u00a0 This time\u00a0boiled shrimp, chowder, and\u00a0salad.\u00a0 In the afternoon you could head over to Coronado, check out the famous hotel, have a fruity drink, sit on the beach, and watch the low flying military planes go by.\u00a0 Before you know it, it’s gelato time.\u00a0 We\u00a0must to go to Little Italy and then head to Aunt Leona’s favorite Italian place, Filippi’s<\/a>.\u00a0 It’s a\u00a0narrow Italian grocery store that leads into a restaurant.\u00a0 For dinner, red wine, an antipasto salad (with olives, cheese, and mixed salumi<\/a>), and a huge serving of lasagna and cheese ravioli.\u00a0 Breathe.\u00a0 Consider walking up the infamous stairs at the Convention Center or just hang out in by one of the many\u00a0fire pits outside the hotel<\/a> (because after two days in San Diego, a 65 degree night now feels oh so chilly).<\/p>\n

Day 4:\u00a0 Wake up lazily, have coffee, then\u00a0stuff all your clothes as fast as you can in your suitcase.\u00a0 Eat some more seafood before heading home.\u00a0 A snack of shrimp and crab cocktail with beers at The Fish Market is in order as we\u00a0watch the planes and ships go by on the sunny deck.\u00a0 Realizing that we’re hungry for more, we order some deep fried soft-shell crab and scallops.\u00a0 One more minute on the sunny deck and we head to the airport.<\/p>\n

We’re\u00a0back\u00a0in Madison, I hope you brought your body length parka and\u00a0your ten pound\u00a0Sorel<\/em> boots.\u00a0 There’s a blizzard out \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n
