Imagine this, my skin is red with yellow flecks and my body has ballooned into a giant\u00a0strawberry shape.\u00a0 Yes, this little Strawberry has been as greedy as Violet\u00a0in Willy Wonka<\/em>.\u00a0 Hold on a second\u00a0while Keith rolls me off to the juicing room.<\/p>\n

Whew!\u00a0 Ok, I’m feeling a lot better now.\u00a0 Some fun facts<\/a>.\u00a0 Did you know that an average strawberry has about 200 seeds?\u00a0 It is also not considered a true berry since its seeds are on the outside.\u00a0 However, it is a true fruit and it is\u00a0the only fruit that bears its seeds on the outside.\u00a0 In parts of the Bavarian countryside, every springtime, farmers\u00a0tie small baskets of wild strawberries to the horns of their cattle as an offering to elves. They believe that the elves, are passionately fond of strawberries, will help to produce healthy calves and an abundance of milk in return.\u00a0 (It makes me wish I were an elf.)\u00a0 I wish the season lasted a bit longer (only about 3 weeks here in SW Wisconsin).\u00a0 There is one\u00a0lucky town in Belgium called W\u00e9pion where strawberries can be harvested from springtime until about September.\u00a0 It is the strawberry capital of the world.\u00a0 They even have a strawberry museum<\/a>, a place I’d\u00a0love to\u00a0visit someday.<\/p>\n

This spring, I puchased a total of 12 quarts of strawberries from Bures Berry Patch<\/a>\u00a0and Peck’s Farm Market<\/a>.\u00a0 I froze a couple of quarts, ate some fresh, made crumbles, enjoyed them with ice cream, made preserves, and dropped some in sparkling water.\u00a0 Nothing beats strawberries in season which is now sadly over.\u00a0 Did you get to have some\u00a0this season?\u00a0 I hope so.\u00a0 Goodbye springtime, see you next year.<\/p>\n
