\/><\/a><p>Look what I grew!\u00a0 This my friends is a Brandywine tomato.\u00a0 It&#8217;s the most popular type of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tomatofest.com\/what-is-heirloom-tomato.html\">heirloom<\/a> tomato and\u00a0the first to ripen in\u00a0the\u00a0garden.\u00a0 Of course I had to make something special to celebrate the occasion.\u00a0 There are a lot of tomato recipes out there but the tarts (especially the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidlebovitz.com\/2010\/05\/french-tomato-tart-recipe\/\">French ones<\/a> with their use of mustard) intrigued me.\u00a0 I also had a fine jar of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fallot.com\/en\/mustards.php#\">Edmond Fallot<\/a> grainy mustard that I purchased from the <a href=\"http:\/\/driftlessdepot.com\/\">Driftless Depot<\/a> sitting in the pantry that I&#8217;ve been wanting to use and some fat and\u00a0happy herbs from the garden. \u00a0I was a bit skeptical about putting the mustard in but I took a most delicious chance.\u00a0 I even decided to give\u00a0it some Italian <em>baci.\u00a0 <\/em>Kisses. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>My Best Garden Tomato Ever<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/bestgardentomato.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4154\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->First you must make the <em>p\u00e2te bris\u00e9e<strong>.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/em>It is basically\u00a0a shortcrust pastry but with more butter.\u00a0 I used a recipe by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.doriegreenspan.com\/\">Dorie Greenspan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>P\u00e2te Bris\u00e9e<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Ingredients<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>1 1\/4 cups all-purpose flour<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 teaspoon sugar<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1\/2 teaspoon salt<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>6\u00a0 tablespoons (3\/4 stick) cold butter, cubed<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 large egg (beaten)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 t. cold water<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mix all the dry ingredients, add the butter slowly\u00a0and incorporate it into the flour mixture using your hands until you get little pieces of different sizes and shapes.\u00a0 There should still be a bit of flour not mixed in.\u00a0 Mix in the cold water and the beaten egg then form a ball.\u00a0 Let it rest in the fridge for at least 3 hours said Dorie but it worked fine after\u00a030 minutes with my dough.\u00a0\u00a0Roll out the dough\u00a0(on a generously floured surface) enough to fit in the tart pan.\u00a0 Set aside and add the filling.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/frtomatotart.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4157\" title=\"frtomatotart\" src=\"http:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/frtomatotart.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"660\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Filling<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F<\/p>\n<p><em>Ingredients<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>grainy mustard<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>sliced tomatoes<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>thyme<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>basil<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>olive oil<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>salt<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>bread crumbs<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Parmigiano Reggiano<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>olive oil<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Spread a layer of mustard in the bottom of the tart.\u00a0 Next, add one or two layers of sliced tomatoes.\u00a0 The basil and thyme go on next then the bread crumbs mixed with some parmigiano.\u00a0 I used a couple day old sourdough bread\u00a0with whole garlic cloves baked in.\u00a0 I&#8217;d suggest adding a bit of minced garlic if you have plain breadcrumbs.\u00a0 Drizzle generously with some good olive oil and bake for 30 minutes or until you get some nice golden brown coloring.\u00a0 You can serve it hot or at room temperature.<\/p>\n<p>This tart was fantastic with it rich buttery tart, the nutty and mellow warmth of the\u00a0mustard grains, sweet and juicy tomatoes, fresh herbs, the garlicky crunch of the topping, and the kisses.\u00a0 Should I say <em>buonissimo or t<\/em><em>r\u00e8s bien?\u00a0 <\/em>I think I&#8217;ll just\u00a0go with <em>Mmm<\/em>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a
