width:48px;height:48px; margin: 0; padding: 0; border: none; box-shadow: none;\" src=\"https:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/social-media-feather\/synved-social\/image\/social\/regular\/96x96\/rss.png\" \/><\/a><p>Hello there,\u00a0today is\u00a0officially the last day of summer.\u00a0\u00a0I&#8217;m a bit \u00a0sad\u00a0because we&#8217;ve only had one BLT sandwich\u00a0this season (see the amazingly decadent picture below).\u00a0\u00a0I&#8217;ll wait until you wipe that drool off your face.\u00a0 To make our\u00a0one and only BLT of the season extra special, I decided to make some mayo.\u00a0 Because of the cooler weather, the chickens have been happily laying eggs.\u00a0 So much so that I had 3 dozen eggs from friends in the fridge.\u00a0 Not that making mayo was going to make a huge dent in the supply, I merely wanted to show you how cool I was to have friends who raise chickens.\u00a0 Thanks to Brett, Chris, and Steve.\u00a0 Yes, it is simple things like this that\u00a0make me happy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Heaven<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/blt20121.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4310\" title=\"blt2012\" src=\"http:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/blt20121.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/blt20121.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/blt20121-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/blt20121-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/blt20121-400x266.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->This special sauce\u00a0is said to have been\u00a0invented by the chef to Duke Richelieu at a banquet to celebrate the capture of Port Mah\u00f3n\u00a0in Spain in the mid 1700&#8217;s.\u00a0 Traditional sauce back then was made with cream and eggs.\u00a0 The chef was without cream so he used olive oil instead.\u00a0 He\u00a0called it \u201cMah\u00f3nnaise\u201d after the victory against the British rule.\u00a0 The French then introduced the sauce back home and that&#8217;s where the sauce started to gain its popularity.\u00a0 The Spanish also claim to have invented this &#8220;Maonesa&#8221;
