<\/a>Hello all.\u00a0 How was your holiday weekend?\u00a0 I hope it was spent well\u00a0with the people you love.\u00a0 This year Keith and I threw a “Friendsgiving” party.\u00a0 We had quite a delicious menu and some great company.\u00a0 We brined<\/a> and spatchcocked (butterflied) a couple of turkeys raised by Stacey & Bill of My Fine Homestead<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0It only took an hour to cook, much faster than when roasting\u00a0the turkey whole.\u00a0 The skin was crisp\u00a0and the meat was moist and flavorful.\u00a0 It was also a\u00a0nice re-introduction to Thanksgiving turkey for\u00a0our friend Dawn who had not had it for about\u00a0ten years.\u00a0 Speaking of Dawn, she is quite the baker.\u00a0 She brought a galette filled with three types of thinly sliced squash, caramelized onions, and some ricotta and parmigiano cheeses.\u00a0 The buttery crust had an exquisite balance of the thin flaky and tender layers.\u00a0 Another hit was her pear and ginger cheesecake.\u00a0 Mike brought a sinfully good pecan pie.\u00a0 I’m not a disciplined baker so my contribution was\u00a0a pumpkin pie made by Grant Achatz<\/a>‘ family.\u00a0 Thank you Whole Foods Madison for stocking it!\u00a0 Our friend Kiley brought some delicious extra aged Pleasant Ridge Reserve and Rush Creek cheeses which she helped to make.\u00a0 We went traditional for the sides: turkey gravy, cranberry sauce, Brussels sprouts, green bean casserole, and\u00a0my “must have” sweet potatoes with marshmallow.\u00a0 I love\u00a0an American Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n My Plate<\/em><\/p>\n THE MEAL<\/strong><\/p>\n We used China and silverware from Grandma LoRetta.\u00a0 I even polished the silverware the night before.\u00a0 It\u00a0made me feel\u00a0as if I were a downstairs maid\u00a0from the show\u00a0“Downton Abbey”. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n Appetizers<\/strong><\/p>\n Extra Aged Pleasant Ridge Reserve<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n Rush Creek Reserve<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n Crackers<\/em><\/p>\n Globe Grapes<\/em><\/p>\n Drinks<\/strong><\/p>\n New Glarus Serendipity<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n Furthermore Fallen Apple<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n New Glarus Spotted Cow<\/em><\/p>\n Main & Sides<\/strong><\/p>\n Turkey from My Fine Homestead<\/a>\u00a0with homemade Herbed Butter<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n![\"\"](\"http:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/friendsgiving20122.jpeg\" "\\"friendsgiving2012\\"")
