Sjolinds<\/a> (pronounced “shoo-linds”) makes me think\u00a0about\u00a0the\u00a0scrumptious cottage in the forest in Hansel & Gretel minus the evil witch and minus\u00a0the forest.\u00a0 Sitting along\u00a0Main St. in\u00a0Mt. Horeb (known for\u00a0their troll statues), it is a friendly and bright\u00a0space.\u00a0 The best part of the chocolate house are the many\u00a0drawers filled with chocolate bars!\u00a0 I remember going there for the first time a\u00a0few years ago and opening every single one.\u00a0 There are the\u00a0classic Toblerones, Milka, Kinder, as well as some of Sjolinds<\/a> own brand.\u00a0 I was\u00a0pleasantly surprised to see a single origin bar from\u00a0Davao City in the Philippines.\u00a0\u00a0My grandparents in the Philippines\u00a0actually have\u00a0several cacao trees.\u00a0 Whenever the come to the states they smuggle in some chocolate\u00a0tablets\u00a0<\/a>for the\u00a0family.\u00a0 So you could say we have our own single origin brand as well.<\/p>\n

Besides the chocolate bars, there are many other things that may catch your eye and appetite: a chocolate tart, fluffy coconut cake, cinnamon rolls, croissants, some quiche, almond torte, truffles and more. They also have about ten or maybe a dozen types of hot chocolate. \u00a0As if it couldn’t get any better, the space has been recently expanded and the menu now includes Finnish meat pies.<\/p>\n

Instead of cooking last night, I decided to get us\u00a0a variety of\u00a0savoury pies for dinner.\u00a0 After I finished paying, I was enticed by a beautiful almond torte. Ty, at the counter was nice enough to pack me up a slice and do the extra transaction.\u00a0 The veggie was \u00a0filled with cabbage, egg, onion, mushrooms, and cream cheese.\u00a0\u00a0 Another one was filled with beef, mushroom, and onions.\u00a0 It had a bit of a Christmas taste.\u00a0 Perhaps it had\u00a0some\u00a0nutmeg or cloves?\u00a0 The third one had pork, onions, potatoes, and prunes.\u00a0 To drink, we had birch beer and Gus meyer lemon soda.\u00a0 We enjoyed all of it and we plan to go back for more!<\/p>\n
