\/><\/a><p>Good morning everyone, I know it has been awhile since our last post.\u00a0 Keith and I turned the big 3-0 this spring.\u00a0 We celebrated by traveling to London, the English countryside (where we got to visit with some of Keith&#8217;s family), New York\u00a0City (with some favorite people)\u00a0and the colorful patchwork\u00a0that is\u00a0Brooklyn.\u00a0 On our return, I was surprised with a 50&#8217;s food themed birthday party by\u00a0our SW Wisconsin friends.\u00a0 There was something called &#8220;Beanie Weenies&#8221;, some kind of Cool-Whip dessert, Betty Crocker meatloaf, and other casseroles.\u00a0 It feels great to be back home, take time for tea, and to bake in my cozy kitchen.\u00a0 A bit of snow fell last night but that didn&#8217;t stop me from\u00a0going to the garden.\u00a0 Several garlic plants have come up, the chives are slowly pushing up the leaves that covered it last fall, and the fists of rhubarb have started to uncurl.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>The Scent of Lemon and Vanilla<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/driftlessappetite.com\/?attachment_id=4699\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4699\"><img \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><!--more-->RECIPE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lemon Poppyseed Cake<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Ingredients<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>2 c. flour<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1\/4 t. salt<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 t. baking powder<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>2-3 T. poppyseeds<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 stick butter (room temperature)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>3\/4 c. sugar<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>4 T. sour cream<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>4 eggs<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1\/4 c. vegetable oil<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 T. lemon zest<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 T. lemon juice<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>1 T. vanilla<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Glaze<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>1\/2 c. powdered sugar<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>lemon juice<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>water<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.\u00a0 Grease and flour a loaf pan.<\/p>\n<p>Sift the flour, salt, and baking powder.\u00a0 Add the poppyseeds and set aside.\u00a0 In another bowl, cream the butter and sugar.\u00a0 Add the eggs one at a time, then the vanilla,\u00a0sour cream, oil, lemon zest and juice.\u00a0 Bake for 50-55 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.<\/p>\n<p>After you&#8217;ve taken the loaf out of the oven, invert it out of the pan and place in a cooling rack.\u00a0 Prepare the glaze.\u00a0 Add the lemon juice and water to the sugar a little bit at a time until you&#8217;ve got the right consistency (somewhere between honey and maple syrup).<\/p>\n<p>It smells so good.\u00a0 I suggest you go bake your own loaf.\u00a0 Have a scrumptious day!<\/p>\n<p
