Hi there!\u00a0 What have you been up to?\u00a0\u00a0Me, I’ve been on a baking\u00a0spree for\u00a0about a\u00a0week now.\u00a0 So much so that\u00a0the only way I could whip up breakfast this morning was to scramble-up some cookies.\u00a0 Not really, \u00a0but we did have tea and cookies for breakfast.\u00a0 The first thing I made was the filling for the mince pies.\u00a0 My first encounter with this (which came out of a package)\u00a0was not so pleasant but I decided to make it to see if it’s any better.\u00a0 I looked at several recipes and decided to make it with whatever I had on hand.\u00a0\u00a0Some key things to have is fruit, dried fruit, sugar, and booze.\u00a0 My mixture consisted of pears, pear cider, homemade orange liqueur (“Grand Marnier”), orange juice, homemade blood orange marmalade, sultanas, dates,\u00a0walnuts, poppy seeds, maraschino cherries, and molasses.\u00a0 The scent\u00a0was absolutely\u00a0intoxicating and it\u00a0tasted just as lovely.\u00a0 Here’s a nice article and recipe<\/a> by Nigel Slater.<\/p>\n

Mince Pies, Pink Cookies, & Pork Pies<\/em><\/p>\n

I know the “pink cookies” are not pink.\u00a0 Keith’s family calls it that.\u00a0 There is a branch of the family who color the cookies pink but not them.\u00a0 Read this post<\/a> for the history and recipe.\u00a0 They are quite fun to make and every year I’m getting better and better at it.\u00a0 They are old fashioned soft sugar cookies and\u00a0are scrumptious eaten straight out of the oven without the\u00a0frosting.\u00a0 The pork pies were a bit laborious.\u00a0 At day two, I questioned why I even started them but I had to follow through and finish it.\u00a0 Day three, they were ready to be tested.\u00a0 Keith and I\u00a0enjoyed it and we also brought some to a party.\u00a0 It was a hit.\u00a0 I think this will have to go into my Christmas season repertoire.\u00a0 The next post will be include more droolworthy pictures of the pork pies and the recipe.\u00a0 Fa-la-la-la-la and a good day to you!<\/p>\n
