Okay so this is never going to be one of those sophisticated beer blog where I talk about citrus notes and hoppy undertones.  I don’t know that much about beer and I’m only a casual drinker.    This is Capital Brewery’s Island Wheat.  It is a wheat beer.  It tastes like a wheat beer.  I like wheat beer.  If you’d like to read more about Island Wheat, I suggest Beer Advocate.  They actually know what they’re talking about.

Island Wheat is called that because the wheat is sourced from Washington Island in Door County, Wisconsin.  The same wheat is also used to make Death’s Door Spirits (vodka and gin). The Washington Island Hotel and Washington Island Coffee Room in Madison are related businesses that used Washington Island wheat in their breads.  It’s very cool to see the hard work (& pride) these people are putting into building a new regional food identity.   America is such a homogenized country at the moment.  This country will be a much more interesting place if companies like Capital, Death’s Door, and the Washington Island Hotel prosper.  They give the region an identity; distinct and compelling.
